Cold blow for Lincoln

Lincoln has lost £10 million in revenue after the Lincoln Christmas Market was closed due to severe weather conditions. For the first time in 28 years, excessive snow has caused the market to close.

And in a time of economic struggle, it is a cold blow to an economy that is desperate to get going. The Christmas Market is one of Lincoln’s biggest events – and its cancellation loses many tourists, money and pride for the city. The city is said to be the worst affected by snow in the whole country, with schools closing and people snowed in. The closure of the market causes many problems for the city, as it will have to raise funds elsewhere. When the government is making cuts, public services like the police will be affected by this massive revenue loss. It will be interesting to see how the city will cope without the Christmas Market, and how the County will react to this.
