• 10-11 Were supportive of the 1983 paper and not supportive of the Beacon Heights query. Most of these very clearly expressed their belief that the Bible teaches that homosexual behavior and practice is sin. However, many of those supporting the 1983 paper also wanted the group to know they didn’t hate or despise homosexuals in any way. One lady expressed her anguish that if the pro-homosex people believed that way, why don’t they start their own church rather than trying to change ours. The “hostile” lady started to engage her in discussion, at which point I and the facilitator emphasized that this was not a dialogue or debate session on the issue. My observation, in discussing the event with others, was that the majority attending this hearing (closest in distance to Beacon Heights and Lincolnshire, both congregations taking a liberal view on homosexuality) were in favor of retaining the 1983 paper.
