Residents urged to make village safe after snow

Cllr Jones said: “Only the main Peppard Road and our bus route through the main village — not as far as the Unicorn pub — will be salted by Oxfordshire County Council but it has been agreed with them that, should we have a particularly bad winter, the parish council may endeavour to clear and salt some of the worst road slopes accessing our village from the Peppard Road ‘dip’.”

Cllr Jones, who lives in Kennylands Road, said residents would still be responsible for the safety of their own paths.

Black ice causes spate of crashes on roads (From Oxford Mail)

DRIVERS faced treacherous roads across Oxfordshire when black ice formed following a heavy frost today.

Freezing temperatures overnight led to icy conditions, with 95 per cent of all police call-outs involving road accidents.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to seven accidents in just two hours along the A40 between Headington and the M40 junction near Wheatley and between junctions eight and six on the motorway. Tonight police advised motorists to delay their journeys until roads had been regritted.

Motorist Ross Ditchburn, said he saw three crashes between Wantage and Witney this morning.

He said: “It was treacherous out there and there were sheens of ice so it didn’t look like the roads had been gritted.”

Thames Valley Police spokesman Laura Deane said some were driving too fast for the conditions.

She said: “Officers were very busy this morning. Across the force, we were called 66 road traffic collisions which resulted in injuries.”
